If you are the parent of a first-time driver, the salespeople at Humber Motors Ford want you to know that we understand both the bitter and the sweet of this moment. We’ve been there. We want this first-time car buying experience to be memorable - for all the right reasons.

The number-one question asked by parents of first-time drivers is always about safety. The Ford Company values the safety of our drivers and the people they love most above any other issue.

With three safety packages perfectly suited for first-time drivers (and that will help promote confidence with their parents), we have just what you’re looking for!

Ford MyKey

Ford MyKey, standard on almost all Ford models, is a critical part of our commitment to keeping first-time drivers safe. MyKey is a key custom programmed with safety features you feel are most appropriate for your teenage driver. Those features include:

    • a safety belt reminder with repeating alarm

    • low fuel light that activates earlier, allowing more time for fuel-up

    • the ability to restrict vehicle speed

    • the option to set audio systems to a maximum volume of 45%

If your model is equipped with these additional features, MyKey can be set to:

    • always be on for Advance Trac or traction control

    • 911 Assist or Emergency Assist

    • Do Not Disturb, which disallows incoming texts and phone calls while driving

    • Blind Spot Information System and Cross Traffic Alert

Ford Co-Pilot 360

Standard on almost all makes and models, ask one of our professional staff at Humber Motors Ford about this incredible safety feature. The Ford Co-Pilot 360 system is a literal lifesaver.

The Ford Co-Pilot 360 System includes the following safety features:

    • Pre-Collision Assist With Automatic Emergency Braking

Depth perception while driving in the dark can be a real challenge for some first-time drivers. Pre-Collision Assist uses in-car technology to scan the road ahead and alert you to potential collisions with vehicles or pedestrians it detects in your path. If an object is detected, a warning flashes on the windshield and an alarm sounds. If you are alerted and take no action, the brakes are applied automatically. The brakes are only applied if you need them - not if you don’t.

    • BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert

Active even when you’re not moving, radar systems on either side of your car detect when a car is present and in your blind spot. A light comes on in the corresponding side-view mirror to alert you to the vehicle you may not be able to see. *This system only detects motorized vehicles, not bikes, walkers, or other objects.*

Cross-Traffic Alert warns you a moving car is coming from either side when you’re backing up with three alerts: a light on the corresponding side-view mirror, a chime, and a message in the message sensor.

    • Auto High Beam Headlights

Offered as a standard feature, the auto beam headlights can sense poor lighting conditions and automatically turn on to increase visibility. A real plus for nighttime highway driving, it also senses when another vehicle is coming from the opposite direction and dims automatically.

    • Evasive Steering Assist

This available feature can help make it easier to avoid a potential collision. It does not steer for you, but it provides steering support if the system warning goes off and you need to maneuver around the vehicle ahead.

    • Lane-Keeping System

This feature keeps you in your lane, especially in a moment of distraction, by constantly scanning your positioning within your lane and alerting you should you deviate from it.

Head-Up Display

Your eyes should always be on the road! Ford’s Head-Up Display is the best way to get the critical information you need without taking your eyes off the road in front of you.

Available on most makes and models, this safety feature is designed to show images regarding current speed, navigation, and information regarding your pre-collision assist on a display screen in front of you as you look through the windshield.

Offered as a completely free asset with your vehicle purchase, FordPass is an app that promotes driver (and parent) confidence. Available from the Apple Store or Google Play, FordPass allows you to request 24/7 roadside assistance, lock/unlock your vehicle, remotely start/stop your vehicle, locate your vehicle in a crowded lot or garage, and even schedule a vehicle start time.

It also allows you to check fuel levels, set and schedule routine maintenance, and make car payments directly from the palm of your hand.

First-time drivers and their parents have lots of questions. Our knowledgeable and trained staff at Humber Motors Ford has lots of answers. Let us make this first-time buying and driving experience a memorable and safe one!
